San Mei (Third Sister) Miao Minority

As the time approached for my exhibition at the Birmingham Museum of Art, Jessy thought it would be a good idea to provide some extra pictures depicting various aspects of life in the minority villages.   Of course, she enlisted our ethnic minority friends to help.

San Mei is in her mid twenties, from Kali area and is Miao minority.  She does not speak English and she had never held a camera before.   With a minimum of instruction, she borrowed Jessy camera....She returned to the villages of her childhood, interviewing  and photographing.  I was stunned by her sensitivity to her subjects and the quality of her images.   I hope you will be also.
